Fall Back to Your Healthy Habits

September Newsletter

It’s been a long, hot summer in the city… My body feels beat up by the heat. I didn’t sleep well and feel tired and stiff this morning. My left Achilles tendon and knee have been sore for months. My soul craves a morning run, but it’s raining out. Plus, my brain reminds me, “Jim, your baby will soon be waking up and will need to be changed and fed. You have a lot of patients today, so you need to get to the train on time.” Yet I know that if I don’t exercise now, it just won’t get done. Why? Because there is always something “more important” that will take precedence: work, mass transit delays, grocery shopping, Netflix . . . .

So I get dressed, lace up my sneakers, and head out. With rain splashing down my legs, face, and body, I slowly made my way down the road and begin climbing a challenging hill. My heart rate and breathing increased, my legs began to burn, and at that moment, I knew that I made the right decision to “Fall Back to My Healthy Habit.”

Here are 4 Simple Tips to Fall Back to YOUR Healthy Habits:

  1. Pick your “Happy.” What do you enjoy? Running, Walking, Swimming, CrossFit?
  2. Pick your “Happy Place.” Central Park for running, biking, or strolling? Prospect Park for some sun salutations and downward dogs? High Line for some push ups or squats?
  3. Pick your “Happy Start.” Forget about all the miles you ran before COVID. Forget about your max weight at the gym before your gym closed. Forget about how many burpees you could do in a row before your CrossFit box was closed. Give yourself permission for the “happy start” poses, or movement, or weight level that feels good today.
  4. And then celebrate by being “Happy.” Be proud of yourself for choosing to Fall Back to Healthy Habits.

Patients often have to wait weeks or months to gain access to providers—long enough for conditions to move from acute to chronic.  I bring physical therapy to you, to meet your wellness goals with the convenience of a mobile service that comes to your home or office.  My goal in delivering you personalized one-on-one care is for you to have a pain-free and healthy lifestyle.  I provide a mobile physical therapy experience to Northern New Jersey and New York City that empowers, educates, and restores balanced healthy movement without the drive to appointments, having to re-schedule your day, or cope with crowds and traffic. – Jim Palmer, Physical Therapist

What clients are saying…..

I started PT with Jim over FaceTime in the height of COVID. I have done a lot of PT, but this is the first PT that feels function oriented and strength building. Jim is encouraging and affable. He is always ready to cheer on my small wins! I highly recommend seeing Jim in-person or online!

Working with Dr. Palmer has been a pleasure. He took time up front to understand my injury, assess where I was stronger and where I was weaker and to talk through what I wanted to achieve. I can’t speak highly enough of Jim. He’s both technically excellent as well as just a genuinely nice person.

…. After listening intently to my symptoms and doing some manual tests, Jim realized I had a different injury than the doctor had prescribed.  He recommended fresh strengthening exercises which, combined with his stretching, improved my condition quickly.  Jim also set me up for lasting relief by teaching me how to address the pain if/when it arises again.
