Treat (Not Trick) Yourself to a Healthier You
October Newsletter
Let’s talk about treating yourself to chocolate!
What? Is this a trick? Not at all. Chocolate can be one of several easy steps to get you on the way to a healthier and happier you!
As we enter the fall season with every good intention of falling back into our healthy routine, it may seem counterintuitive to be discussing chocolate. You might be asking, “Shouldn’t I be staying away from sweets if I’m trying to get back into my health routine?” But did you know that chocolate, like exercise, can also improve your health and happiness level?
Most people are pretty familiar with endorphins. “Good endorphins” are released when we exercise, which in turn acts to reduce our pain perception, improve our mood, lower our stress, and produce an overall positive feeling.
What might be less common knowledge is that eating dark chocolate has a similar effect. Eating dark chocolate produces endorphins, decreases stress, AND helps in stimulating the release of serotonin, which is a natural anti-depressant. So if during this season when stores are stocking up on candies, you might be busier than usual and don’t have time to go to the gym to de-stress, remember that a little bite of dark chocolate can go a long way. Or, better yet, reward yourself after your workout with some dark chocolate for that extra endorphin boost! You will feel doubly good!

What clients are saying…..
I started PT with Jim over FaceTime in the height of COVID. I have done a lot of PT, but this is the first PT that feels function oriented and strength building. Jim is encouraging and affable. He is always ready to cheer on my small wins! I highly recommend seeing Jim in-person or online!

Working with Dr. Palmer has been a pleasure. He took time up front to understand my injury, assess where I was stronger and where I was weaker and to talk through what I wanted to achieve. I can’t speak highly enough of Jim. He’s both technically excellent as well as just a genuinely nice person.

…. After listening intently to my symptoms and doing some manual tests, Jim realized I had a different injury than the doctor had prescribed. He recommended fresh strengthening exercises which, combined with his stretching, improved my condition quickly. Jim also set me up for lasting relief by teaching me how to address the pain if/when it arises again.
